Fly Fishing Equipment

Bonefish:

· 8-9 weight fast-action rod with saltwater taper

· Disc-drag large arbor reel with at least 200 yards of backing

· 10 ft. to 12 ft. leaders with 10-12 lb. Clear monofilament or fluorocarbon tippet

Permit:

· 9-10 weight rods

· Floating saltwater line & intermediate sinking line

· Disc-drag large arbor reel with at least 20 yards backing

· 9-12 ft. leaders with 12-15 clear monofilament or fluorocarbon tippet

Tarpon:

· 8-10 weight rods

· Floating saltwater line and clear intermediate sinking line

· Disc drag large arbor reel with at least 200-300 yards of backing

· 6-9 ft. leaders with 15 lb. Clear monofilament or fluorocarbon 60lb shock tippet

Always bring extra leaders as it is virtually impossible to get gear once you get to Xcalak.

Flies

Bonefish:

· Crazy Charlie: Pink/Brown/White Size: 6-8

· Snapping Shrimp: Size: 4-6-8

· Gotcha with Weed Guard: Size: 6-8

· Quantities: 8 each

Permit:

· Merkins Craby Fly: Size: 2.1/0 or larger

· McCrab Fly: Size: 2/0

· Snapping Shrimp: Size: 4

· Other miscellaneous crab patterns, ie: del Brown, Vetcro Crab, etc.

· Quantites: 6 each

Tarpon:

· Cockroach: Size: 2-3 each size

· Orange/Yellow: Size: 2-3 each size

· Black/Purple: Size: 2-3 each size

· Chico’s Shallow Water Tarpon: Orange Grizzly

Snook:

· Lefty’s Deceiver: Red/Yellow, Green/White Size 2/0

· Saltwater Poppers: Blue/White, Yellow/Red, Green
